Description
The Monument to the Defenders of Belgrade in 1915 was installed in 1988, on the left bank of the Danube, next to the promenade and not far from the Sport and Recreation Center ‘Milan Gale Muškatirović’. Made of bronze and stone, it is 3.5 meters tall. The famous words of Major Dragutin Gavrilović are inscribed on the monument: ‘At precisely three o’clock, the enemy is to be shattered by your steady charge, blown away by your bombs and bayonets. Belgrade’s good name, the good name of our capital, must be preserved. Soldiers, heroes, the Supreme Command has erased our regiment from their numbers. Our regiment is sacrificed for King and Homeland. There’s no reason to care for your lives which don’t exist anymore. Therefore, charge for glory! Long live the King! Long live Belgrade!’
