Hall 1 of the Belgrade Fairis

Constructed in the 1950s, Hall 1 of the Belgrade Fairis a cultural monument that has been declared an immovable cultural heritage. Designed as a modern urban complex, the Hall was constructed by means of prefabrication techniques that had previously never been employed, with the use of so-called prestressed concrete.The project design team included the architect MiloradPantović and construction engineers BrankoŽeželj and Milan Krstić. Circular in shape, it is covered by a dome spanning 109 meters, which makes it the largest prestressed concrete dome in the world. The Belgrade Fair with its exhibition halls is one of the greatest achievements of Serbian post-war architecture and a testimony to the society’s technical, technological, scientific and creative rise in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Due to its urbanist and architectural solutions, dimensions, harmony of shapes and grandiosity, it is one of the most successful examples of local architecture.
