RAKOVICA

The name Rakovica was first mentioned in old Turkish records dating from 1528, and the lake known today as Pariguz (‘But-steam’)is foundhere, whose mud is believed to heal hemorrhoids. It was artificially created, but the area surrounding it offers excellent conditions for sports and recreation. Large portions of the Rakovica city district are occupied by the MiljakovacForest and Košutnjak, both popular excursion sites. In Košutnjak, you can see the monument erected in 1868in the place where Prince MihailoObrenović was killed. Interestingly, the headquarters of the Adventist Church are located here, in apre-World War IIvilla belonging to the family Blagojević. The Church of Saint Bartholomew and Barnabas was constructed in 1838.
