Description
The Obelisk was installed in honor of Prince Miloš’s return to Serbia and the establishment of the Obrenović dynasty in the late 19th century. Its author was the stone-cutter Franc Loran, whose signature is found on the monument. The Obelisk’s location in the central avenue of the oldest section of Topčider Park, and at the same time in the axis of the bay windows dominating the main façade of Prince Miloš Residence, speaks of the tastes and paradigms of the age in which the monument was put up, and finds analogies in the 18th century European Baroque garden palaces. It is a unique example of this kind of art.
